I ultimately selected Bay Energy Heating and Air as my main contractor for a heat pump because of Adkins' knowledge of HVAC systems, his responsiveness to my questions, the way he worked with me to get the model I wanted (slightly more efficient than the one originally proposed), and the included five-year warranty in the final price for the unit (as opposed to the extra $1,500 his competitor wanted for the same warranty on the same unit). Moreover, when the installation was complete, Adkins handled the paperwork for the state rebate that's an important part of the incentives I needed to go ahead with this project.
Adkins' team of installers were also top-notch (I've posted a separate review for them) and, when a question came up just as the installation was starting because the installer recommended a different thermostat configuration than Adkins and I had first discussed, Adkins responded in a very timely and positive manner. He had no problem with the suggested change and agreed it made sense even though it resulted in a lower final invoice for me. In other words, rather than try to convince me to spend the extra money, he served my best interests, not his.
As a result, I have no hesitation in recommending Bay Energy Heating and Air to anyone who needs HVAC service, whether for a new or existing system. Adkins really goes the extra distance to satisfy his clients.

Right off the bat Adkins was the first of 3 companies to respond to my request for pricing of a new air conditioning system to replace my gas furnace. It helped that I knew what I wanted and since I am a licensed contractor, I was able to purchase a system and do most of the preparation work myself I just needed them to remove my gas furnace and connect up the new high efficiency components together of which they did a fantastic job. The other companies would only sell me a whole system and not just install the equipment that I purchased. Bay Energy had no problem with just the installation and also supplied the couple of items that I had not thought of. The pricing was fair and the work was good. Never pressured me to do anything above what I wanted. So if you're looking for an experienced, reliable a/c contractor I would highly recommend Adkins and his company Bay Energy. My house in Pinole now has heating AND cooling and is utilizing my original ducting. We are super happy and will be very comfortable this summer and into the future as it's getting hotter and hotter every year it seems. Lastly, if you're unsure of what you need call them and Adkins can easily and comfortably explain to you what the best system for your house is and he just might be able to save you money in the long run with a new more efficient system.
